General Information
General information about Engineering's services for Facilities
Services Offered
Engineering and technical support has 4 main service streams for facilities. These are:
- Mobile workshops for maintenance and repairs (Programme 7.2)
- Day-to-Day maintenance program (Program 8)
- Routine maintenance program (Program 8)
- Emergency maintenance program (Program 8)
Which services can we use?
Workshop Maintenance
Workshop based maintenance is available to all Western Cape Health facilities. This includes buildings owned by WCGH but leased to a 3rd party or buildings that does not belong to WCGH where there is a signed SLA indicating that the department is responsible for maintenance to the building. Requests should be exclusively for maintenance and repairs as the workshops do not attend to new installations, additions, extentions or major renovation works.
Day-to-Day Maintenance
Day-to-Day maintenence is planned on a yearly basis and is generally for outsourced maintenance which is too complex or large for the facility to procure. Projects range from once-off repairs and renovation projects to maintenance contracts for facilities which do not qualify for the Routine maintenance program. Day-to-Day maintenance is not suitable for new buildings, extentions or any work which changes the form and function of a building.
Routine Maintenance
The Routine maintenance program is generally responsible for service and maintenance contracts for facilities built or newly renovated after 2007. Facilities do not submit projects to this program and maintenance services are automatically initiated after the warrantee period ends.
Emergency Maintenance
Engineering also manages the emergency maintenace to all Health facilities.
Who should be contracted for information?
The head of the workshop at the nearest regional referral hospital should be able to provide more information about the maintenance contracts in the district. For metro regions, please refer to engineering or your district office. For day to day projects (Programme 8) contact Lucille Welgemoed.
